According to the Sacramento Bee:
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has been removed from a list of individuals barred from receiving federal aid and the city will not be hindered in receiving future federal aid, according to a settlement reached with the U.S. Attorney's Office announced today.
Because Johnson and his nonprofit St. HOPE Academy have agreed to give back half of $847,673 in federal grants it received, they will be removed from a list of those suspended from access to federal funds.
"From the get-go, I said that federal funds to the city were never at risk, and that the suspension was unwarranted and unnecessary," Johnson said in a statement released by his office. "This settlement confirms that, and it closes the chapter on this distraction so I can continue to work with President Obama, our U.S. senators, and Congresswoman Matsui for Sacramento's fair share of federal dollars and stimulus funds."The suspension was unwarranted and unnecessary but you gave back some of money...isn't giving back the money an admission of guilt on some level?
